Q:
How far up the leg does the hot water have to
go?
A:
Just above the injured area..( recommended as
high as you can get for more circulation)
Q:
Do you have to re-heat the water during the 30
minutes the horse is
standing in it?
A:
Absolutely NOT! ...First, get the temperature
from
108-113F one time
ONLY!
That is it.
DO NOT RE-HEAT
THE WATER WITH THE HORSE LEG IN THE BUCKET, OTHERWISE
YOU WILL BURN IT .
Q: The stuff you wrap the leg in after soaking – is that
special? I have not seen anything like it it,
can you describe it exactly
what is it?
A:
The cotton pad, you can get in any tack shop, it’s not
especial. It’s just a regular cotton pad.
The plastic wrap, (it’s that regular saran wrap we use
at the kitchen to seal containers to put on the
fridge!) It’s a simple saran wrap) Then a polo wrap on
top of the plastic wrap, ( they come in all colors,
the one pictured on our website is the green)
Q: How long does the wrap have to stay on the leg after
soaking?
A:
Let say you start the treatment today and you wrap
your horse leg,
you leave the wrap in until next
treatment. Everyday the same, do not take the wrap
off. And make sure, when you wrap the leg DO NOT MAKE
TO TIGHT OR EITHER TO LOOSE.
Q:
If I want to walk my horse for 30 minutes, should
I do
that before soaking, after soaking, opposite end of
day to soaking, or doesn't it matter?
A:Definitely before soaking. The next day when you are
going to make the treatment, you take the wrap off,
walk him for 30 minutes, give a bath or/ and do
everything you need to do before soaking. Then you
make the treatment, (optional the time the horse is
eating, so they keep quite while doing the treatment).
Q:
She has injured both front legs, does that mean she
needs 2 scoops of RR each soaking or will one scoop do
both legs?
A:Go in this page of the Runner’s Relief
http://www.runnersrelief.com/application.html
Do you see that picture of the horse with both leg on
the red bucket? Well, would be best if you can find
something like that, a plastic bucket like those they
use for feeding. The water goes right above the tendon
area and we add just one and half scoop of the
Runner’s Relief- You can put both front legs in
there and put the food right in front of the
horse
and shouldn't
have any trouble doing the treatment.
Q:My vet says my horse has very ‘upright’ front legs, so
she has a different shape of leg to the average
racehorse. Her knees are a little bit backward, as all
friesian horses are, its the shape of the breed. I’m
telling you this in case it means RR will not work,
just in case it works best for thoroughbred racehorses
and not so much for ‘heavier’ horses.
A: It does not make any difference. Leg is leg and thats
how they are shaped. We are talking about injury, and
the injury will be healed if followed instruction as
directed. We treat all kinds of horses, in fact we
have a rehab center in the east that treats only
Friesian. My recommendation to you is, if you
already have an ultrasound,(if
not, take one so you know the percentage of the injury
to begin with) after treating your horse for
forty -
sixty
days you should take another ultrasound. Then you will
make your own conclusions after seen the
ultrasounds.
